In 1800 gebruikte het leger van Napoleon de pas om Italië binnen te vallen. Een gebeurtenis afgebeeld door Jacques-Louis David en Hippolyte Delaroche. Bij aankomst aan het hospitium zou elke soldaat van de monniken twee glazen wijn en wat kaas gekregen hebben. Volgens de overlevering zou Napoleon uitgegleden zijn op zijn achterste en zo Italië binnengeschoven zijn.
