Frechen is een stad en gemeente in de Duitse deelstaat Noordrijn-Westfalen, gelegen in de Rhein-Erft-Kreis. De gemeente telt 51.947 inwoners op een oppervlakte van 45,10 km².
Frechen is beroemd om zijn steengoed keramiek dat eeuwenlang aldaar is vervaardigd. In de 16e t/m 19e eeuw werd dit op 1200-1300°C gebakken materiaal massaal vervoerd door Europa. In de 16e eeuw waren de kruiken fraai versierd in de stijl van de Renaissance. Kenmerkend voor Frechense steengoedproducten uit de vroege fase zijn de eikenbladeren en eikels en de baardmannen. De gunstige locatie bij de Rijn maakte het vervoer per schip erg gemakkelijk naar bijvoorbeeld Nederland en Engeland. Maar Frechens steengoed kwam via deze handelsnaties tot in Amerika en Oost Azië terecht.
