De sluizen Datteln behoren - van de Rijn gezien - tot de laatste van de zes kanaalstappen van het Wesel-Datteln-kanaal bij kanaalkilometer 59,28 in Datteln-Natrop. Een kilometer hoger mondt het Wesel-Datteln-kanaal bij het kanaalkruis Datteln in het Dortmund-Ems-kanaal uit.
De grote sluis Datteln werd in 1928 gebouwd en in 1931 samen met het kanaal geopend. De sluiscompartiment heeft een lengte van 222 m, een breedte van 12 m, de valhoogte bedraagt 7,5 m en het waterverbruik bedraagt per sluizing 20.000 m³. Schepen met een diepgang tot 2,8 m kunnen worden geschut. Bovenstrooms en benedenstrooms wordt deze sluis gesloten door hefschuiven. Deze sluizen werden in november 1993 vernieuwd.
