Burg Greifenstein is het stamslot van de vorsten van Schwarzburg. De legende wil dat een roofvogel zijn meester daartoe bewogen heeft deze burcht hoog boven Bad Blankenburg te bouwen. Boven deze burcht, die zelf uitsluitend toegankelijk is na afspraak, zweven nog geregeld roofvogels. Valken en adelaars zetten tijdens roofvogelshows vandaag de ontstaansgeschiedenis van deze burcht kracht bij.
