De eerste inleidende etappe (13 km) van de Camino del Cid. De etappe van Vivar del Cid naar Burgos maakt deel uit van het routedeel El Destierro (The Exile), het meest noordelijke deel van de Camino del Cid van 360 km dat loopt van Vivar del Cid naar Atienza.

Vivar del Cid is bekend als de geboorteplaats van de Spaanse ridder Rodrigo Díaz, el Cid Campeador, de naamgever van de route. In Vivar del Cid. Bij de Oficina de Turismo kan een salvoconducto (of een 'letter of save conduct') worden verkregen. Op veel plaatsen langs de route kan de salvoconducto worden afgestempeld.
