In het hart van de Moezel, te midden van de weilanden van de Seille, trekt een uitgestrekte moddervlakte zonder enige vegetatie de aandacht van de wandelaar. De witachtige sporen op het oppervlak van de grond verraden de aanwezigheid van gekristalliseerd zout. Dankzij bijzondere geologische omstandigheden zijn in het hart van de Moezel, in de Seille- en de Niedvallei, zoutbronnen ontstaan die uniek zijn in Frankrijk en uiterst zeldzaam op Europese schaal. In deze bronnen leven bijna twintig typische kustplanten, op meer dan 400 kilometer van de oevers van de Noordzee. Deze rijkdom aan flora gaat gepaard met een opmerkelijke rijkdom aan fauna en landschap. Het gebied is door de Europese Gemeenschap erkend als Natura 2000-gebied. Dieren moeten kort worden aangelijnd. Rondleiding op reservering bij het Office du Tourisme du Pays du Saulnois op 03 87 01 16 26.
