Op de top van de Puy d'Yssandon, bij de ingang van het kleine dorp op 360 meter hoogte, is het silhouet van een toren te zien. Deze plek stond al heel vroeg bekend om zijn strategische verdedigingspositie: er zou hier een Gallisch oppidum hebben gestaan en Pepijn de Korte ging in de 8e eeuw de confrontatie aan met Waïfre, de hertog van Aquitanië.
Maar deze imposante toren is het laatste overblijfsel van een middeleeuws kasteel dat tijdens de Honderdjarige Oorlog in de 15e eeuw werd verwoest. Vandaag de dag kunnen bezoekers aan picknicktafels even uitrusten en genieten van het heuvellandschap en het prachtige panoramische uitzicht over de omgeving van Le Puy.
