Het Hofpark is de bakermat van Wateringen. Rond 1250 stond hier namelijk al een slot van de ridders Van Wateringhe. Doordat dit geslacht uitstierf kwam het uiteindelijk in handen van het geslacht Van Naaldwijk. In 1485 schonk Hendrik IV van Naaldwijk, als heer van Wateringen, het slot aan de cisterciënzerorde. Het klooster dat zij stichtten werd al in 1573 verwoest. Op de ruïnes werd een buitenplaats gebouwd voor Delftse regenten. In 1806 werd de buitenplaats voor de helft gesloopt. Het restant werd verkocht als boerderij. Deze boerderij werd in 1984 gerestaureerd en is nu in gebruik als cultureel centrum.
