De Pauluskerk werd gebouwd in de 16e eeuw door Dom Bartolomeu dos Mártires voor de Sociëteit van Jezus in het Sint-Jacobs-Seminarie.
De kerk maakt deel uit van het gebouw waarin het Pius XII Museum is gevestigd.
De voorgevel is vrij saai en sober en eindigt met een driehoekig fronton waarin een cirkelvormig raam uitkomt. De kerk heeft slechts één toegangsdeur, omlijst door zuilen aan de zijkanten en een fronton erboven. Het werd ontworpen door André Soares. In tegenstelling tot de voorgevel is het interieur verbluffend en wordt het beschouwd als de beste verzameling barokkunst in de stad tijdens de regeerperioden van João Pedro II en V.
Er is een enkel schip met een zeer groot koor. Er worden verschillende werken tentoongesteld, waarvan de belangrijkste van Tom Araújo is. Er zijn ook beelden van de vier evangelisten (door António Pinto Araújo).
