Kroniekschrijver Priorato van koningin Christina vermeldt, dat ze één nacht in het koninklijk kasteel van Jönköping verbleef tijdens haar reis naar het zuiden na haar troonsafstand in 1654. Het kasteel brandde af in 1737. Het werd nooit herbouwd. De ruïnes werden in de 19e eeuw opgeruimd. De geschiedenis van de fortificatie en het kasteel wordt getoond in het nabijgelegen Jönköping Läns Museum aan de Slottsgatan. (Gravure 17e eeuw door Erik Dahlberg.)
