A finales del siglo XIX se extrajo arcilla en esta área, y después de la Primera Guerra Mundial, la fábrica de ladrillos de la Costa comenzó a producir ladrillos aquí. En 1961 se fundó una estación de radio del Servicio Radio Marítimo y en 2001 la estación de radio fue transferida al Ministerio de Defensa Nacional. La superficie de 100 ha pasó a estar bajo la gestión de la Agencia de Naturaleza y Bosques.
