Château de Taisne - Riceys-Bas

The Château des Riceys-Bas and its gardens are part of the great history of France .

Robert de Ricey had a fortified house built in 1086 , but this keep was destroyed by the king. In 1424, Nicolas Rolin had a new castle built on this land, which was given to him by the Duke of Burgundy. This castle was a residence of the bishops of Chalons-sur-Saône.

Marie d'Amboise, holder of the fief, had the castle modified in 1450, especially the two towers . It is to Anne de Laval that one of the towers owes its name. In 1506 she had a new tower built with a diameter of twelve meters, as well as a gallery.

In 1967 , Lieutenant Colonel Angélito de Taisne and his wife, Claude du Bois de Riocour, decided to settle here. They took the plunge and embarked on a wine-growing adventure and carried out major restoration works on the castle and the domain. Today, their descendants, inspired by their parents, are carrying out major restoration and embellishment works with the support of the Regional Cultural Affairs Service of Champagne-Ardennes and the Departmental Service for Architecture and Heritage, in collaboration with Pierre Bortolussi, chief architect of the historic monuments, and its teams.
