Hulsterlooroute

The landscape on this route in the land of Hulst is of two kinds. In Kieldrecht and in Nieuw-Namen, the first and the last village on the route, you drive through a sandy area. The rest of the landscape consists of polder areas that were painstakingly reclaimed from the sea through dike construction. Here and there you can still see a remnant of this struggle: the creeks, which over the centuries have accumulated a unique flora and fauna. You also pass by some creeks that are very typical for this region. Reynaert de Vos also loved this area; his animal forest was finally called Hulsterloo.

SAFETY
Relatively safe bicycle route, often along bike paths and polder roads with little traffic.
Almost everywhere paved road; but also some unpaved paths through the forest. 15% car-free.

RECOMMENDED STARTING POINT
The tourism office Zeeuws-Vlaanderen starts this route, which partially leads through East Flanders, in Hulst. We begin the ride at the Sint-Michielskerk in Kieldrecht, right in the northeastern corner of the province of East Flanders.
