Situata sulla strada del vino e adagiata ai piedi dei monti Vosgi, vicino alla loro vetta più alta, Soultz fu menzionata per la prima volta nel 667. Il suo nome deriva probabilmente da "Sulza", che si pensa evochi l'esistenza di una sorgente di acqua salata.
Grazie alla viticoltura, la città conobbe un prospero Rinascimento nel XVI e XVII secolo, come testimoniano le belle residenze con torri scalari, ornati e contrafforti.
Con una popolazione di 7.311 abitanti, Soultz è un luogo molto piacevole da visitare e i visitatori rimarranno sicuramente sorpresi passeggiando per le strette vie e lungo il percorso storico della città vecchia.
Vi farà piacere ascoltare le storie dei personaggi illustri che hanno vissuto qui, come Georges Heckeren d'Anthès, di cui si può ancora ammirare il castello e che affrontò il poeta russo Pushkin in un duello mortale.
