Seit etwa 1900 ist Bergen ein Künstlerdorf, das viele Maler, Schriftsteller und Architekten anzieht. Das Museum Kranenburgh in Bergen beherbergt eine Sammlung von Kunstwerken dieser Bergener Schule. Das Villenviertel Park Meerwijk wurde 1915 im Stil der Amsterdamer Schule erbaut. An der Buerweg haben namhafte Künstler gewohnt.
Es gibt regelmäßig Kunstmärkte in Bergen, jährliche Musikfestivals (die Holland Music Sessions im August und Jazz & Sail am ersten Septemberwochenende) und ein jährliches Kunstfestival (die Kunsttiendaagse im Oktober).
