Leverkusen [ˈleˑvɐkuːzn̩] ist eine kreisfreie Stadt und Mittelzentrum im südlichen Nordrhein-Westfalen, gehört zum Regierungsbezirk Köln, liegt geographisch im Bergischen Land und gehört somit zum Rheinland. In Leverkusen mündet die Wupper in den Rhein.
Die Stadt liegt unmittelbar nordöstlich von Köln und gehört der Metropolregion Rhein-Ruhr an. Mit ihren 163.851 Einwohnern zählt sie zu den kleineren Großstädten des Landes. Bekannt ist Leverkusen vor allem durch den Bayer-Konzern und den Fußball-Bundesligisten Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Gegründet wurde die Stadt Leverkusen 1930 durch den Zusammenschluss der Stadt Wiesdorf mit den Gemeinden Schlebusch, Steinbüchel und Rheindorf.
