La cappella che qui esisteva già nel 1232 divenne nel 1264 la chiesa parrocchiale di Borsbeek. Grazie a William Nose. Dopo un pellegrinaggio verso Santiago de Compostela, avrebbe costruito una cappella sulle terre della sua famiglia a Borsbeek in onore di San Giacomo. I pellegrini olandesi che camminano lungo la Via Brabantica verso il luogo di pellegrinaggio spagnolo si fermano ancora qui.
La chiesa ha sopportato incendi, guerre e saccheggi: la guglia della torre è stata addirittura saltata in aria due volte. Solo negli anni '90 è stata posta una nuova guglia. Dettaglio interessante: questo è anche un punto di riferimento geodetico ufficiale, un punto di riferimento per misurare le altezze.
