Il Tempio di Eracle è uno dei templi più antichi sopravvissuti nella Valle dei Templi, risalente al VI secolo a.C.
Tempio di Eracle gravemente danneggiato e in gran parte in rovina. Ciononostante offre ancora uno spettacolo impressionante ed è una testimonianza dell'antica grandezza architettonica. Si ritiene che sia stato distrutto dal generale cartaginese Annibale nel 406 aC durante l'assedio di Akragas.
Il tempio originariamente aveva 6 x 15 colonne . Il Tempio di Eracle conteneva iscrizioni e incisioni in onore di Eracle, nonché immagini dell'eroe e delle sue gesta leggendarie. Queste immagini servivano come tributo al potere divino di Eracle.
Il Tempio di Eracle è così iconico che una sua immagine può essere trovata sul rovescio della moneta italiana da 1 centesimo di euro.
