La torre va ser construïda entre 1388 i 1390 pel paleta Henri Mérial, darrere de la propietat d'una tal Marie Spilar.
A més de la torre de Saint-Jacques a la rue du Beffroi i la torre de la Monnaie a la rue Basse Marcelle, és una de les tres torres supervivents de la tercera muralla de Namur, coneguda com la "Vieille Fermeté".
La torre té una planta semicircular i està feta de pedra sorrenca del Mosa. El primer pis és cec llevat de tres espitlleres. Dos dels eixos es van col·locar lateralment per defensar la muralla de la fortalesa. El segon pis té persianes abatibles per protegir els defensors.
