Gijón és una ciutat i conceyu de la costa cantàbrica al Principat d'Astúries . El seu terme municipal té una superfície de 181,6 km² i una població de 274.037 habitants.Els primers testimoniatges de presència de l'home en el que avui dia coneixem com a municipi — consell a Astúries — de Gijón se situen al Mont Deva, on existeixen una sèrie de túmuls i al Mont Areo, on existeix un conjunt dolmènic neolític considerat com el més important del nord d'Espanya.
