Castle of Schiplaken

Castle of Schiplaken in Schiplakenbos.

On the border of Hever with Schiplaken, lies the so-called "Castle of Schiplaken", accessible along a beautiful drive.
The castle itself was built after the First World War, but the service buildings in a loose U-shape date from the 18th and 19th centuries. On the right, a building in neotraditional style. Beautiful central wing with sober neoclassical slant; whitewashed brick construction rhythmed by wall pilasters and indented wall sections of brick, covered with a hipped roof (tiles); central round arch gate and later rectangular windows.
Single-storey left wing under gable roof (tiles), dating from 1734; baking and sandstone construction on quarry stone plinth. Round arched door in a frame with quarter-hollow neg starting from a triangle, with neg blocks, dated imposts "Anno/ 1734", keystone and drip molding ending on spirals; oval round skylight with imposts and key. Similar but partially closed door on the left. Braids and shoulder pieces in the side gables and on the right, two cloisters.
