Vespa Club Tessenderlo

Club ride: Lively Molenkens ride 133 km - June 2, 2024 - Departure at 11 am.

Ride leader: Marco Ceustermans

Ride leader Marco Ceustermans gave a brief introduction before departure and informed us about what to expect during the ride. He told us about the windmills we would encounter, including the fact that some of them are still active on Sundays. Who knows, maybe we would see one in operation.

Our curiosity was piqued and we quickly prepared for departure. The weather was not ideal, with clouds at the start, but that didn’t deter the true Vespa riders. Today, we were out with 42 members who would participate in the ride.

Shortly after our departure, we already saw the first windmill, the Prinskensmühle in Meerhout. The mill was obviously no longer in operation, as the blades were missing. The second, the Zittaartse Mühle, also in Meerhout, was fully intact but also out of order. We continued our search for a functioning mill and followed our route to admire the next mills:

3. Oosterlomühle in Oosterlo.

4. Beddermühle

5. Heemerf Käsestroh-Mühle and Pandoerenhoeve in Heist-Op-Den-Berg

6. Mühle von Bouwel

7. Windmühle Hogewegmühle

8. Buulmühle

9. Mühle von Larum

Of course, one gets thirsty from all that enjoyment on a Vespa, so Marco had planned the following stops:

1. Stop at 49 km: Café 't Kruiske, Kruiskensbaan 3 in Bevel-Nijlen (where we could eat our sandwiches)

2. Stop at 79 km: Die Wasserskikloon, Hoogbuul 53b in Olen

3. Stop after about 115 km: Die Vlessenhoeve, a surprise stop where the club treated us to a delicious ice cream (with scoops as big as a man's fist).

After visiting all these windmills and especially after the big, tasty ice cream, we returned to the clubhouse Black & White for a cozy debriefing on the terrace, as the sun had come out again.
