Un primer castillo en el feudo de Saint-Fontaine fue destruido a finales del siglo XIII durante la famosa Guerra de las Vacas, librada entre el Condado de Namur y el Príncipe-Obispado de Lieja.
Saint-Fontaine era un señorío bajo la corte feudal de Lieja y pertenecía a Wathy de Cent-Fontaine. En 1345 fue vendido a Olivier d'Ohey.
El castillo en ruinas fue reemplazado por un nuevo castillo que se incendió a principios del siglo XIX . El conde Emile de Liedekerke construyó el actual castillo clásico en el lugar del castillo incendiado entre 1820 y 1830.
Construido en piedra caliza y arenisca , el castillo de Saint-Fontaine tiene una forma cúbica rematada por una balaustrada de terracota. En el parque se encuentra la notable capilla de Notre-Dame, un edificio románico del siglo XII.
