The Green Nature Point Walk in Steentjesbos

The Steentjesbos is a smaller forest in the north of the municipality of Kampenhout. Together with the Schiplakenbos, the Snijsselsbos and the Hellebos-Rotbos area, the Steentjesbos forms a green corridor between the municipalities of Berg, Perk, Elewijt, Kampenhout and Hever (Schiplaken).

The core area of the Pebble Forest consists of a mixed deciduous forest with a characteristic spring flora such as forest anemone, valley herb, dark-spored forest violet, primrose and uniberry. The mix of deciduous and coniferous trees creates a varied fauna in the pebble forest. Perhaps you can see the beautiful golden rooster or nuthatch along the softwood groves. You can also observe great spotted woodpecker, middle spotted woodpecker, small spotted woodpecker, green woodpecker, black woodpecker, nuthatch, treecreeper, buzzard, mathead, sparrowhawk and hawk. Roe deer, rabbit, hare and common dwarf bat are regularly observed in the forest.

In the Steentjesbos wild mountain ash is harvested annually as native planting material. Autochthonous planting material forms a kind of quality mark. It guarantees a close-up origin that makes it fit well into our climate. source: Natuurpunt
