Le Pöllat est un torrent d’une dizaine de kilomètres de long situé dans la partie bavaroise des montagnes d’Ammer. En dessous du château de Neuschwanstein, il coule à travers les gorges du Pöllat, qui sont enjambées à une hauteur de 90 mètres par la plate-forme d’observation du Marienbrücke, ce qui rend le ruisseau particulièrement célèbre.
Le nom Pöllat est dérivé du celtique Bellat, qui signifie « ruisseau tonitruant ».
