Landsbyen Boblas ligger cirka 4 km syd for byen Naumburg ved kanten af Lösshügellandet omkring Zeitz og Naumburg, en del af Leipzigs lavlandsbugt. Boblas' sogn udgør en del af Geo-Naturparken Saale-Unstrut-Triasland.
Grundlæggelsen og oprindelsen af stedet Boblas er ukendt. Navneformen Bobeluz eller også Poblitz tyder på en slavisk bosættelse. Stedsnavnet er afledt af Bob og Luce. Denne tolkning begrundes med, at Kugelbach tidligere dannede sumpede enge i nærheden af landsbyen, som først forsvandt gennem tørlægning og skovrydning.
