Brouwerij Van Den Bossche is a brewery in Sint-Lievens-Esse, Belgium and East Flanders, part of Herzele. The brewery was founded in 1897 and is still owned by the same family.
Arthur Van Den Bossche (1875-1925) started his brewery in 1897 on the Sint-Lievensplein of Sint-Lievens-Esse. He was the son-in-law of the Callebaut brewery family from Wieze, now known as chocolate makers.
After Arthur's death in 1925, his wife and their sons Willy and Marc Van den Bossche continued to expand the company. In 1975 Ignace Van Den Bossche, son of Mark, joined the brewery as a partner and in 1981 he became manager. Currently, the fourth generation is active in the brewery.
The now well-known beers are Pater Lieven Blond, Pater Lieven Triple, Pater Lieven Bruin, Kerst Pater, Lamoral Degmont and the longest beer brewed to date Buffalo, which was first brewed by chance in 1907. During a performance of the Circus Buffalo Bill in Sint-Lievens-Esse, the production process had taken a different turn due to oblivion, but the beer nevertheless turned out to be popular.
One can also visit this company, which is located on the beautiful village square there.
