This classicist building in Ruisbroek from the early 19th century was designed by Ferdinand Berckmans. It is a gem of civil architecture with an ascending gallery and striking round-arched arcades. Since 1983, the former town hall has been a protected monument.
Until 2009, Museum De Bres was housed in this beautiful building. The non-profit Museum De Bres was established on August 23, 1976, to keep the memory alive of everything that happened to Ruisbroek in the disastrous January month of 1976. After the restoration of the building in 2011, the municipality of Puurs (now Puurs-Sint-Amands) decided to rent the building privately.
