During the Greek War of Independence, a major battle was fought at Chaidari of Haidari and won by the Greek Freedomfighters. Nevertheless, the Turks could capture 16 prisoners alive and beheaded fifteen of them. The 16yh, Lampro Koromilas, father of 7 children, was crucified and nailed to a wall by his feat, hands and ears. After 72 hours, he was still alive and was put out of his misery by a sympathizing Turk who shot him.
