The tower was built in 1550 by the brotherhood of Saint Michael.
It is a mighty structure with a perfect geometric shape , a square base and visible carved surfaces, without windows except on the south side. It has the characteristics of a fortification built in Sciacca at the time of Charles V (16th century), when the threat of pirate attacks or a Turkish landing was greatest. The tower was probably built for observation purposes and was later used as a bell tower.
Today it is also a privileged vantage point from which you can enjoy a 360-degree panorama of the entire city.
