The Funicular de Santa Luza, better known as the "Lift" , has a station on Av. 25 de Abril near the hospital. It is located on a raised area behind the train station and can be reached by taking a free lift from the train station and crossing a metal bridge or by going inside Viana Shopping.
At 650 metres long, it is the longest cable car in the country and takes approximately 7 minutes to ascend to a height of 160 metres.
The cable car was first built in 1923 and has recently been completely renovated. The small cabin seats about 12 passengers and runs every 15 minutes.
The cable car operates from January 1st to May 31st and from October 1st to December 31st, from 8am to 6pm. During the summer months, from June 1st to September 30th, the cable car operates from 8am to 8pm.
