When you stand on the Hoofdbrug, with your back to the Gravenkasteel, and you look towards the Grasbrug, you will see a row of facades on your right. The fourth facade starting from the bridge will certainly catch your eye. It is the last wooden facade in the entire city. Until a bit into the 19th century, there were more wooden houses to be found, but when the city council decided to distribute subsidies to anyone who had their facade faced with stone, many of these facades were turned into firewood. Therefore, only one has actually remained standing.
This facade stands out for another reason. It is painted in a popular color for Ghent facades, namely Isabella yellow.
