This family brewery was founded in 1897 by Arthur Van den Bossche and has been owned by the same family since its inception, now the fourth generation .
The brewery and the associated brewer's house together form a well-preserved example of a village brewery from the end of the 19th century. The complex includes a brewhouse, malthouse, coach house, smithy and wells , grouped around a cobbled courtyard.
The brewery is best known for its Pater Lieven beers and the Buffalo range.
The first Buffalo beer, Buffalo 1907 , was created, according to tradition , by chance during a performance of the Buffalo Bill circus in the village. A forgotten stirring resulted in a slightly burnt taste , which was surprisingly appreciated.
