The Grail, according to some, is the cup from which Jesus drank at the Last Supper, or the cup from which Joseph of Arimathea received the blood of Jesus on the cross. Others reduce it to a symbolic concept, which would represent the bloodline of Jesus. The Grail stories resurface during the heyday of the Knights Templar (considered the guardians of the Grail) and the Crusades. This cult was strongly banned by the Church, yet it remained successful for centuries. For two centuries, however, the Grail stories disappeared, coinciding with the "extermination" of the Templars in the early 14th century, until Sir Thomas Malory in his "Morte d'Arthur" revived the story in 1470, until today. . Even during WWII, the Nazis are said to have believed in its existence and had excavations conducted by Otto Rahn at Montségur and Rennes-le-Château. According to some accounts, the Grail was brought to Glosonbury, England by Joseph of Arimathea. Another story is that it was brought ashore by Mary Magdalene to France, near Marseille.
