Attraverso questa chiusa viene svuotato il bacino d'attesa quando il livello del Demer lo consente. Il ruscello dall'altra parte è il Vloot, che in passato scorreva diagonalmente attraverso il lago e formava il confine tra Schulen e Linkhout. Il Vloot e anche il Demer erano un tempo ricchi di pesci. Linkhout e Schulen avevano ancora molto tardi pescatori professionisti e "battellieri". Bande (militari) in transito e posti di guardia (a quello che ora si chiamano "checkpoint") venivano pagati con... chili di pesce.
