Bugarach came in the world spotlights at the end of 2012. December 21 2012 was predicted as one of the (many) times that the world would end. This coincided with the end of the Maya calander, hence the assumption. One of the few places that would be spared was the area around Bugarach, thanks to the peculiar mountain of Pic de Bugarach. The "believers" thought/think that this mountain is a shelter for aliens and their spaceship. These aliens would save the people linving in the nieghbourhood at time of the apocalypse. Nothing happend related to the end of the world story. Bu what did happen is that this story created a huge boost for local tourism.
