Wist je dat duiventillen pas tijdens de middeleeuwen opkomen in Midden- en West-Europa. Het kweken van duiven is iets dat we meebrachten uit het Midden-Oosten. Vanaf de 13de eeuw werden over heel Europa duiventillen gebouwd. Het was zo populair dat er regels voor de bouw van een duiventil werden opgelegd. Niet onlogisch want zo een zwerm hongerige duiven konden je graanveld leeg vreten. De voordelen waren voor de eigenaar want duivenmest was uitstekende bemesting. Wist je dat soms een deel van de bruidsschat duivenmest was! En zo een vette duif was ook nog een voedzame aanvulling op je proteïne arme dieet.
