The pond area Midden-Limburg is a pond-rich core area in De Wijers, a region in the center of the Belgian province of Limburg. The area is roughly located south of the E314, east of the Albert Canal, and west of the railway line from Hasselt to Mol. As the name already suggests, it lies in the middle of the province of Limburg and is the largest pond area in all of Belgium, with a total surface area of over 4000 ha. The landscape is very forested, with both deciduous and coniferous trees, but there are also very valuable agricultural areas and a great variety of fauna and flora. Within it lie about 1,175 ponds, or wijers in the dialect, covering a water surface of 700 hectares.
