The king of the Franks loved to reside in his palace in Douzy and hunt in the Ardennes forest. The commune of Francheval, a little further north, would derive its name from the horse Bayard, the “Franck horse,” which is said to have stood up to the emperor! From Douzy to Francheval, it's just a few steps... a gentle and steady climb, then a return on the other slope of the Magne stream with a beautiful panorama of the valleys of the Chiers and the Meuse.
