The Brabantse Wal is part of the border area between the lower Zeeland sea clay landscape and the higher Brabant sandy landscape. The most striking feature of the landscape of the Brabantse Wal is the steep edge, an abrupt transition from the lower-lying sea clay polders to the higher-lying sandy soils. The steep edge was probably created as a result of erosion by the river Scheldt and the sea. It reaches heights of about 20 m +NAP.
In addition to the difference in height, the differences in landscape on both sides of the Brabantse Wal are also remarkable. The lower sea clay area is parcelled out in a straight pattern and is a typical open, flat agricultural landscape with scattered farms. The higher sandy soils form a much more closed landscape with forests and heathland, irregular block allotments and winding roads. The landscape is clearly more remarked, especially in the wooded areas where there are wind-formed land dunes.
