Saint-Barbant est une ancienne commune française située dans le département de la Haute-Vienne, en région Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Depuis le 1er janvier 2019, Saint-Barbant est devenue une des quatre communes déléguées de la commune nouvelle de Val-d'Oire-et-Gartempe.C'est l'abréviation populaire de « Sainte-Barbe-en Poitou » devenu en Saint' Barb'En. dans le langage populaire. Le prénom Barbe apparu au Moyen Age constitue lui-même un diminutif du latin Barbara . Selon d'autre spécialistes, la localité rend hommage à saint Barbentius, évêque de Bénévent dans le Sud de l'Italie ayant vécu au VIIe siècle.
