Tot va començar el 20 d'agost de 1914 a Briscol, un petit poble d'Erezée.
Setze persones del poble van ser capturades pels alemanys. Durant els propers dies se'ls sotmetrà a un autèntic judici. Amb una calor insuportable i encadenats, havien d'arribar a Heure a peu. Un viatge terrible encara més dolorós per la tortura psicològica i la manca de menjar i aigua.
Després de creuar Erezée, Soy, Hotton, Noiseux i Baillonvile , finalment van arribar a Heure . Allà, un consell de guerra va decidir castigar de manera irrevocable quatre dels setze presoners. Recolzats contra els pals de la tanca d'un camp de poble, els quatre màrtirs van ser afusellats . Els altres van tornar a casa sans i estalvis, però devastats per l'horror.
L'accés al monument és privat . Cada any se celebra una commemoració al voltant del 21 d'agost.
