Dieses Naturschutzgebiet ist eine typische Polderlandschaft. An die Lehmgruben des alten Forts Sint-Donaas grenzend, besteht das Gebiet aus einem Wechsel von feuchten, niedrig gelegenen Wiesen und höher gelegenem Weideland.
Das Poldergebiet wird durch die historische Cantelmo-Linie und durch die Hoekevaart durchschnitten. Die reichen Schilfgürtel dieser Wasserläufe und der Schilfsumpf des alten Forts Sint-Donaas sorgen dafür, dass das Gebiet nicht nur für verschiedene Wiesenvögel wichtig ist, sondern auch ein Biotop für Schilfvögel. Auf den Parzellen, die Eigentum von Natuurpunt sind, wurden einige Tümpel angelegt und Hecken gepflanzt, Landschaftselemente, die den kleinen Maßstab und den Reichtum des Landwirtschaftsgebietes von einst wieder herstellen.
