Karlsburg ist eine Siedlung und amtlich Teil der Gemeine Winnemark im Amt Schwansen auf der gleichnamigen Halbinsel Schwansen in Schleswig-Holstein am westlichen Ufer der Schlei südlich der Stadt Kappeln zwischen den Dörfern Karby im Nordosten und Winnemark im Westen. Das heutige Karlsburg wurde urkundlich bereits 1335 als Gereby erwähnt. Die Ansiedlung wurde 1807 – auch im Zuge des Abschaffung der dort geltenden Leibeigenschaft – zu Ehren des Landgrafen Carl von Hessen in Carlsburg umbenannt. Zur Siedlung Karlsburg gehört eine die Geschichte der Ortschaft prägende Gutshofanlage, auf dem sich zudem das Kulturdenkmal Herrenhaus Carlsburg befindet.
Während der Name Carlsburg gut 150 Jahre alt ist, wird der Ort als Gereby schon im Jahre 1335 urkundlich erwähnt . Das Appellativum -by steht im Dänischen für Stadt bzw. Ort , während Geri ein verbreiteter nordischer Vorname war. Gereby heißt also etwa „Garrys Dorf“.
