Operation Slapstick war der Deckname für die alliierte Operation zur Besetzung des italienischen Flottenstützpunktes Tarent. Am 9. September 1943 landete der alliierte Kreuzerverband von Bizerta kommend die britische 1. Luftlandedivision in Tarent; es gab keinen Widerstand. Im Hafen sank der britische Minenleger HMS Abdiel durch eine am Vorabend von deutschen Schnellbooten beim Auslaufen geworfene Minensperre . Bei dieser Operation fiel der britische Generalmajor George F. Hopkinson.
