Las murallas de San Carlos de Cádiz son una semifortaleza construida a finales del siglo XVIII como parte de un ambicioso plan de renovación de las instalaciones y edificios portuarios de la comarca.
Ya a mediados del siglo XVI se pensó en la construcción de uno de los tres baluartes para defender el puerto , el llamado baluarte de Sant Felip, que se puso en servicio en 1560.
Con el aumento del tráfico marítimo, en 1765 se inició una renovación de la finca, que finalmente dio al conjunto su aspecto actual.
