El castillo de Olavinlinna es un castillo de tres torres construido en el siglo XV y que hoy se encuentra en la ciudad de Savonlinna, Finlandia. Esta es la fortaleza de piedra de la Edad Media que todavía sigue en pie más al norte del planeta.[1][2]
La fortaleza fue fundada por Erik Axelsson Tott hacia 1475 bajo el nombre de Sankt Olofsborg, como un esfuerzo por aprovecharse del tumulto creado por Iván III y su conquista de la República de Nóvgorod. Fue emplazado en Savonia como reclamación de la posesión de las tierras más allá de la frontera con Rusia, establecida años atrás por el Tratado de Nöteborg. Estudios recientes han demostrado que el castillo se construyó dentro de territorio enemigo, unos cinco kilómetros más allá de la frontera; pero se desconoce si se hizo consciente o involuntariamente.
