Le Puy-en-Velay es una comuna francesa situado en el departamento de Alto Loira, en la región de Auvernia-Ródano-Alpes. Sus habitantes se llaman, en francés, ponots. Hasta el 18 de marzo de 1988 el nombre de la ciudad era simplemente Le Puy. La catedral y el Hôtel-Dieu Saint-Jacques se encuentran incluidos como Patrimonio de la Humanidad como parte de los llamados «Caminos de Santiago de Compostela en Francia» .
