La cueva de Chauvet[1] o cueva de Chauvet-Pont-d'Arc es una cueva en el departamento de Ardèche del sur de Francia que contiene unas de las más antiguas pinturas rupestres conocidas, así como otras manifestaciones de la vida del Paleolítico Superior.[2] Se encuentra cerca de la comuna de Vallon-Pont-d'Arc en un acantilado de caliza sobre el antiguo cauce del río Ardèche. Descubierta en 1994, está considerada una de las más significativas del arte prehistórico. La cueva es también una referencia para la calidad de conservaciόn del arte rupestre[3] y la gestiόn del sitio.[4] En 2014 la Unesco eligió la cueva de Chauvet como Patrimonio de la Humanidad.[5]
