Herculano fue una antigua ciudad romana de la región de la Campania, sur de Italia. En su tiempo era más pequeña, pero sus más mundanos comerciantes y mercaderes eran más ricos, cultos e intelectuales que la élite de la vecina Pompeya.[2]
Fue declarado Patrimonio Mundial de la Unesco, junto con Pompeya y otros yacimientos arqueológicos de la zona, en 1997.[3]
